Rough Sawn & Hand-Hewn Timbers
All the character of a barn, but without the smell! Whether they're being used as structural or decorative members in your project, our historic barn and granary timbers are a beautiful and dramatic addition to any space. Individual timbers are available as well as timber packages for your entire home.
Rough Sawn Reclaimed Douglas Fir Timbers Original patina Douglas Fir timbers are available in a much larger variety of sizes than hand-hewn beams or logs. 6", 8", 10" and 12" are all common thicknesses and the widths can range from 6" up to 18" (wider widths are available, they're just less common). When specifying original patina douglas fir, it is best to think about how the design will be affected if, for example, it may be specified to use 6"x14" timbers but 6"x12"s are more readily available and are more cost effective.
Lead Time Orders under 100,000 board feet can be processed within 8 weeks and for orders over 100,000 board feet a timeframe of 12-16 weeks should be expected.
Re-Sawn Reclaimed Douglas Fir Timbers If re-sawn timbers are desired, we add 2" to both the specified finished width and height to account for the new cut. We can re-saw the timbers using the band saw or, if a more authentic antique look is desired, we can re-saw using the 48" circle saw.
Lead Time Because of the sawing required, we estimate a 4 week timeframe and 1 additional working day for every 1,000 board feet.
Hand-Hewn Timbers Hand-hewn timbers generally range in size from 6"x6" to 12"x12" with the thickness and width not normally exceeding each other by more than 2" (i.e. 6"x8" hand-hewn timbers are common but 6"x10" hand-hewn timbers are not). Unusual sizes such as 6"x12" or 6"x10" can be obtained by ripping down a larger beam but keep in mind that the cut beams will have one newly sawn edge. Typically authentic hand-hewn material will not pass structural grading and therefore is primarily used in aesthetic applications; however, we can wrap structural members with hand-hewn material prior to installation.
Lead Time Orders under 20,000 board feet can be processed within 8 weeks and for orders over 20,000 board feet a lead time of 12-16 weeks should be expected.
